Best Friends Animal Society is the only national nonprofit animal welfare organization focused exclusively on ending the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters. An authority and leader in the no-kill movement for more than 30 years, we run the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals (our headquarters), regional centers in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and New York, as well as life-saving programs in partnership with rescue groups and shelters across the country.

Since our founding in 1984, we have helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters from 17 million per year to 4 million. No other animal welfare organization has the knowledge, technical expertise and on-the-ground network to end the killing and Save Them All.

More than 9,000 dogs and cats are killed each day in America’s shelters—4 million lives are lost each year simply because they don't have a safe place to call home—when instead they could be saved.
