ABOUT THE OPEN PANTRY OF GREATER LOWELL

Providing food to those in need who reside in the Greater Lowell area. Assistance is offered to individuals and families without any discrimination based on race, creed, or country of origin.

As the oldest food pantry in the area, we understand the reasons for need are numerous. For many, it is a choice between food or rent or heat or medications. It may be a delayed or stolen check, unemployment, or it could be someone who simply has no other means. While the reasons are varied, the needs are real.

The Open Pantry of Greater Lowell is run by dedicated volunteers, Board members, and an Executive Director. We are an active member of the Greater Boston Food Bank, Merrimack Valley Food Bank, Non-Profit Alliance of Greater Lowell, Lowell Food Security Coalition, City of Lowell's Hunger & Homeless Commission, and Enterprise Bank's Non-Profit Collaborative.

Donations of food and/or money are gladly accepted. Volunteers are welcomed!

The mission of The Open Pantry is to relieve hunger in our community. We aim to connect people to a variety of filling, nutritious, and culturally-appropriate food as well as to other community resources; to advocate on behalf of those in need locally, statewide, and nationally; and to engage with others in building food security.

We serve individuals and families residing in Lowell, Chelmsford, North Chelmsford, Westford, Dracut, Tyngsborough, Tewksbury, Wilmington, Billerica, and North Billerica. We welcome those in need, no matter their situation.

While staff and some volunteers can speak Spanish, Khmer, and Portuguese, we recommend bringing an interpreter/translator with you, if needed.

Clients need to bring the following each time they visit the Open Pantry: (1) Original Social Security card for every member of the household being claimed; and (2) Proof of address for the head of household from the last 90 days.

Please visit the Open Pantry even if you do not have these items so we can provide additional resources and at least an 'emergency' order of food.

Clients are eligible to receive food every 30 days. No appointment is needed.
