ABOUT CHILDRENS BOOK BANK

In homes in middle income neighborhoods, the ratio of books to children is 13 books for every child. In low income neighborhoods the ratio is 1 book for every 300 children.

The mission of the Children's Book Bank is to encourage family reading and better prepare children for school by placing carefully selected bundles of books into the hands and homes of low-income, educationally at-risk children.

The Children’s Book Bank strives to improve the literacy skills of low-income children by giving them books of their own. To do this, The Children's Book Bank collects, repairs, and packages community-donated used books. The books are then made available to Portland families- free of charge.
