Changed People Change Nations...
Eric and Ginny Hanson, founders and directors of In His Steps International, first started coming to Cambodia in 1996 through leading short-term teams.
They moved here full-time in 2004. With the intention of empowering Cambodians to reach their own for Christ, IHSI established a local NGO called In His Steps Cambodia. IHSC works primarily in a district called Saang located about 30 minutes outside the capital, Phnom Penh. They have 11 Cambodian staff and 4 international staff.
In Saang, they have three key ministries: Loaves and Fish, The Foundation Center, and the Gospel Community Church of Saang.
Loaves and Fish works with orphans and widows, providing education, microenterprise, healthcare, spiritual development, and taking care of basic living needs. Orphans are frequently placed in Cambodian foster families so that they benefit from a family environment.
The Foundation Center works closely with Loaves and Fish, as well as the church plant. The center offers English classes every afternoon to anyone within the community. They also host a weekly children's program and a youth outreach to teenagers on Saturdays.
Father's House is a safehouse for at-risk and abused children in the Saang area. We provide a family-style oversight in a secure, nurturing environment. Children living at Father's House receive biblical discipleship and mentoring, tutoring and literacy training and attend the local government school.
The Gospel Community Church of Saang is IHSC's newest ministry branch. It is their first church plant! They meet on Sunday mornings for worship and teaching in a Khmer-led service.
Last, but certainly not least, is Sak Saum. Sak Saum is the only ministry under the umbrella of IHSI that operates in Phnom Penh. Sak Saum works with vulnerable and exploited women, offering hope, restoration, dignity and purpose. The girls receive discipleship, counseling, job skill training in the area of sewing, healthcare, relational mentoring and more.
In addition to their work with IHSI and IHSC, Eric and Ginny frequently minister to foreigners and Cambodian pastors here in Cambodia, as well as enjoy a vibrant teaching ministry around the world. They believe that God has called them to not only minister in Cambodia, but wherever in the world God leads.
Why We Exist
In His Steps is passionate about transforming lives spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, economically and socially. We believe that Jesus made possible the promise of eternal life and the hope of lives completely changed in every way.
For that reason, our vision is to provide opportunity for all people to experience a renewed life and to see them liberated from affliction, deprivation and oppression. To the hungry, we offer life. To the forgotten, we provide purpose. To the outcast, we introduce dignity. To the desperate, we bring hope.
We accomplish these goals in several ways: training and equipping Cambodian leaders; providing inner healing, counseling and deliverance through pastoral care; empowering the poor through micro-enterprise; offering education to orphans; strengthening the local body of Christ through church planting; and facilitating protection and rehabilitation for vulnerable and exploited women.
