Humane Society Calumet Area, Inc. has three seperate buildings at this location, the Adoption Center, Intake Center, and the Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic.
The Humane Society Calumet Area was created in 1941 as a Humane Education organization to spread the message of the humane treatment of animals. A shelter was opened on Calumet Avenue in Hammond, where the shelter operated until 2000 when the shelter was moved to 45th Street in Munster.
