ABOUT BALTIMORE HUMANE SOCIETY

Baltimore Humane Society, founded in 1927 by Mrs. Elsie Seeger Barton, is an independent, non-profit, no-kill animal shelter in Reisterstown, which offers low-cost veterinary care to the public, and a pet cemetery with grief support services. It is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and receive no operational funding from the local or federal governments, or any national animal welfare organizations. It is dedicated to giving a safe refuge to homeless and unwanted animals while searching for permanent loving homes for them.

BHS was established to protect, save, and care for abused, neglected, and homeless animals. Since that time we have continued that mission through our adoption, foster, volunteer, humane education, and outreach programs; and by working to improve the climate of animal welfare in Maryland through the legislative process. We offer low cost veterinary care so that those who cannot afford regular vet care can still keep their pets. We also offer educational programs to school age children, a free monthly grief support group, and a Facebook bereavement support page. Some of our community programs include Pets for Patriots, Free Adoption for First Responders, Bmore Kind Pet Food Bank, Read to the Animals, animal visits to Stella Maris long term care residents, educational outreach programs, and free pet adoption for first responders. Popular events include DogFest, Black Tie & Tails, Pet Memorial Sunday, Easter Eggstravaganza, and Holiday Open House.

Our facility strives to be known as a place of care and enrichment to the animals we house. Staff trainers, agility courses, play yards, a sand pit, and swimming pool are all part of our facility. Our cats have cat communal rooms and state of the art cat "condos." The adoption fee at Baltimore Humane Society always includes all vaccinations, spay/neuter, and a microchip.
