ABOUT SASHA BRUCE YOUTHWORK

Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) meets the urgent needs of at-risk youth and their families in Washington, DC. Learn more at www.sashabruce.org
SBY is a private, non-profit youth and family services agency which was founded in 1974 by its current executive director, Deborah Shore, as the Washington Streetwork Project, a counseling service for teenagers living on the streets of Washington, DC.

Since then SBY has grown into l6 key programs, each of which was developed in response to a gap in services to at-risk youth and their families.
SBY's mission is to improve the lives of runaway, homeless, abused and neglected and at-risk youth and their families in the Washington area.

We achieve this by providing shelter, counseling, life skills training, and positive youth development activities to approximately 1,500 youth and 5,000 family members annually. SBY seeks to support and empower vulnerable young people and families. As well as being family-focused, our approach is competency-based: our counselors are trained not to diagnose pathologies, but to identify and build on the strengths of each young person and/or family.
