ABOUT REFURBISHED PETS OF SOUTHERN MICHIGAN

Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan is the first stray dog prison program in the state of Michigan.

The Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan (RPSM) Correctional Companion Program began a partnership with the Florence Crane and Lakeland Correctional Facilities in Coldwater, Michigan, in an effort to find homes for dogs in shelters that would otherwise be euthanized due to lack of homes.

Dogs selected for the RPSM Correctional Program are carefully screened for temperament, trainability, and adoptability. They are fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered prior to enrollment in the program. Once they arrive at the facility, they are assigned to inmates who will be responsible for their training and day to day care. Upon completion of the program, the dog will be ready to receive a canine good citizen certificate (CGC) and be available for adoption into an approved home.

All cost involved in the RPSM Correction Companion Program are the responsibility of Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan and supported by public donations. RPSM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This means any donation you give is tax deductible. This entire program is donation driven and does not cost the taxpayers or state anything. Each dog is estimated to cost about $285 for a 3 month tenure. This is where your giving is the best value. It keeps on giving by restoring a dog's life, restoring a prisoners life, and enriching a family with a trained dog.
