Follow the Who Are We project! A photographic legacy feeding thousands across America.
Who Are We, Inc. is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization created for the purpose of raising funds and awareness to benefit the hungry, homeless, and near homeless. Our initial project funds the publication of a book of fine art photography. Taken at feeding centers in South Florida, the stunning portraits provide an intimate glimpse into soul of American poverty . 100% of all proceeds from the sale of the books will be donated to feeding centers across America. Copies of the book will be donated directly to the feeding centers for use in their fundraising activities. The images, taken by photographer / artist Lew Lautin, over the course of endless hours and numerous years interacting directly with the clients of local feeding centers in South Florida have been critically aclaimed and honored nationally. Lew would set up his lights and cameras week after week, asking people if they would enjoy having a portrait taken. Some came back week after week, some only for one moment. Lew would return the following week with prints to give to the people. His desire was to take a photo which would give them "dignity" and make them feel as if they were a "CEO getting a head shot." Sometimes a person would remark, "I'm going to send this to my family. They haven't seen me in years." Some would simply mumble "thanks" and shuffle off. Each of these images represents a person, a life, a singular story of someone's time upon this Earth. Who are we? We are the human family. We are the hungry, we are the farmer, we are the CEO and the person holding the sign on the corner. We each have a story - and it's a story that matters. That's who we are. We are us. We are you. We are them. We are One. And, We Care!
