In 1972, the shelter became incorporated as the Dorchester Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and property was acquired to build the first animal shelter in Dorchester County. Later in time, the Dorchester SPCA became known as the Frances R. Willis SPCA, dedicated to the woman who was an ardent supporter of animal's rights in Dorchester County.
The Dorchester SPCA d/b/a Frances R. Willis SPCA will strive to instill humane principals into society through the prevention of cruelty to animals. We will feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, reunite lost pets with owners, and through adoptions, find homes for as many stray animals as possible.
